I have been spending all my hours outside of work for the past two months working on camera sliders, learning about NEMA Stepper motors and electronics associated with sliders. Along the way I acquired many bits and bobs in between to get the slider going ... it was a fulfilling project with only one near miss mini accident ... not sure whether you'd be in serious harm from shorting a 12V lead battery - there was a bit of smoke, pop and plenty of hiss!
As a result, I now have sliders which are slightly more refined that the other. So far I have only managed to create a few trial run clips using these sliders, honestly I quite like the outcome though the build themselves are not as electronically sophisticated as the other sliders you see out there made by more savvy and creative folks out there. I'm a rather happy camper in any case coming from 0 zero sliders to having access to more sliders than I need when I need it. It's still pandemic days, what else can you do?
