Hitting tarmac today for a change ...

Iinocently went into Lian Huat bikeshop Sunday morning with the family to check out motor-bikes (kapcai, electric scooters and perhaps a 150cc) but eventually ended up with 2-BMXs for the children and a hybrid roadie for yours truly. Cheaper than the motor bikes for sure.

Cycling used to be a big part of my daily routine: 6:30-7:30am rides before; and 5:30-6:30pm rides after work when living in Miri. Weekend rides with like-minded folks almost every Saturday and solo rides on Sunday. In flat Holland while working in Assen, I cycled to work and back daily together with other colleagues and schoolgoing children.

That routine abruptly stopped when we returned to Miri end of 2004. The 2 Dutch bikes simply fell to disrepair with no place to go, Hilltop, where we live is kinda hilly was the excuse.

Today was the first day I took out the bike and cycled again! Felt kinda good ... waiting to see what pains crops up tomorrow!

Seven-speed old skool roadie.

Single-speed old skool custom built roadie with an upright handle bar, in voluptuous red!

Broke it in this morning through a 32km Hilltop-Lutong-Pujut-Bypass-Kpg Lusut-GH-Jalan Cahaya-Hilltop loop. Other than hairy downhill runs in tandem with Miri drivers, toxic exhaust fumes, sooty road grime, and thigh-busting uphills at the end, it was kinda fun but most painful.

Leg01_31May2011 covered 32kms from Hilltop to the office and back.

Sunny days ahead ... II : Tusan Beach, 30th May

A 15footer looks minuscule against the cliffs of Tusan.

The kiddoes claiming their righful place in the sand under the sun; croc's (actually we saw only one "friendly" fella the other nite) basking yard.

Dig'em up; plenty of sand for everyone.

Sunny days ahead ... I : Bungai Beach, 16th May

A 12-footer on Bungai Beach 16th May; can't remember when I took out to the beach to test the waters.

The kids surely had a goodtime; the past few weekends they've been to coastal villages with us for the community outreach program but was barred from entering the water. On the 16th they finally had their fun.

Kids doing what kids do best; just running around after each other. Reminds me of a little kid (baby goat) I kept as a pet when I was little.

Speed queen vs girth!
